Thanksgiving at the Cabin
When I decided to start this new rental business venture with my trestle tables and benches, I had to test out my new designs. It was September 2018 when I started building my tables. I remember it took weeks to figure out how to make the trestle legs collapse and how to set them up without needing a screwdriver. But even with the ideas working in theory, I needed to see if the ideas worked when people were actually sitting around the tables and on the benches!
Beginning of October 2018, I finished 3 tables and 6 benches just in time for our family Thanksgiving out at my parents cabin. We have a large extended family and about 40 people drove out to pull off an epic potluck style Thanksgiving meal. My tables and benches were going to be put to the test and I couldn’t be more excited!
I took all the seats out of the back of my mini-van and made my kids drive with their dad in a separate vehicle. I had to pull my driver seat so far forward that my knees were touching the dash! But I managed to fit all 3 tables and all 6 benches in the back of my Honda Odyssey! Who needs trucks anyways?! Well, actually, we do have a truck…but the thing with a truck is the tables and benches hang out of the back of the box and if it rains, it’s hard to keep them protected. So the mini van was perfect for the long drive, as I knew the tables and benches would stay dry!
I found some green garlands from Michaels to set in the middle of each table. I also picked up a bunch of fresh white pumpkins to set within the green garland and then added candles for some warmth. I used what we had for plates, which were the melamine ones we use at the cabin. To make them a bit classier, I dressed them up with chargers. I used the plastic wine glasses we already had at the cabin and the silverware was mix and match, again, from what we already had at the cabin.
I love that you don’t need to go all out to make a statement with our tables. The tables and benches speak for themselves and create a great foundation for any party.
We piled 5 adults on each bench and kids snuck in between here and there. We loved that we could use the whole length of the table, as the bench is 8’ along with the 8’ long table. This gave us room to seat the 5 adults along each side. We put a chair at each end, which allowed us to have 12 at each table.
The tables really were a hit and it was an exciting way to kick off this rental business. Fast forward to now, I have 20 tables built, with an option to have white tables as well. The tables and benches have been used at many events, from amazing charity events like the one for Mamas for Mamas, photoshoots with well known event planners, product launch events like with Natures Fare, summer dinners in the winery put on by Quails Gate, weddings for amazing clients and even Christmas Parties. What a delight it has been, I can’t wait to see what’s to come!
